What Reugters and the others will never recognize, is that the Israelis didn’t fly across the world to make publicity points. In reality, while the source or the need for this training started with terror, it has been sharpened and fine-tuned most of all be the experience of rushing to help in natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis. If they wanted to be somewhat accurate, at least Reuters could have suggested that the Israelis come trained by Palestinian and/or Islamic fundamentalist terror attacks. Both forces bring their expertise but lest you think good thoughts about the Israelis, Reuters is quick to offer their opinion, “The Israelis,” the Reuters article states, “come trained by war. You see, both the Israelis and the Mexicans to Miami to try to rescue victims of the building crash. In the NY Times, a quick mention and on to other things.Īnd in Reuters, a line that insults and distorts as much as it reports. In the Washington Post, a picture of the Israeli rescue forces, but not a mention of who they were. And yet each story – in the Washington Post, New York Times, CNN and others focus predominantly on anything but the Jews and Israel. I haven’t looked at all the names, but from the brief reports I have seen, it appears that Jews represent close to 20% of the population in the building, perhaps more. Jews represent under 2% of the entire population of the United States. I clicked and saw a picture of the Israeli rescue forces Last night, I got an alert from the Washington Post on my tablet. So far, Israel and Mexico are the only countries who have sent teams. I am honored to know that as an Israeli, my country has rushed to help. Often, they will help give families closure and offer the ultimate and eternal respect for the dead in retrieving bodies and allowing for funerals.Īs an American, I am horrified by the tragedy that has befallen the city of Miami, the state of Florida and the entire United States. Sometimes, as they did in Haiti, Nepal, Indonesia, Turkey and elsewhere, they will succeed in helping to rescue people. The salute involved the Fire Rescue team showering the plane with its hoses. In Israel, there is great national pride that once again, our soldiers and rescue forces are flying across the world to help. On Sunday, as the final members of the Israeli team departed, their El Al airplane was given a “water salute” by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. “The world came to help #Surfside, and tonight we gave thanks” you #IDF □□ #Surfside #SurfsideStrong /CZQ1fOYjJF They then walked down a street flanked by other rescue workers while people sang “Ani Maamin,” a traditional Jewish song affirming faith in redemption from difficult times. The team received medals and gifted the officials with an Israeli flag in return. The seven-person team from the Israel Defense Forces’ Home Front Command, which arrived in Surfside three days after Champlain Towers collapsed last month, received thanks from Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and other local officials in a ceremony Saturday, according to The Times of Israel. ( JTA) - The Israeli military team that assisted in the search and rescue operation at the collapsed building in Surfside, Florida left on Saturday after received salutes and awards for their work.
